Violent Riot in Tottenham, London (Photos)





On 6 August 2011, Tottenham, London became a battlefield as a protest after a police shot Mark Duggan on Thursday and turned into a  horrific riot. Two police cars, a red double-decker bus and several buildings including a supermarket and a carpet shop were attacked and set aflame in north London on Saturday.

Approximately 300 members of the north London community had gathered outside the police station in High Road, Tottenham district in London. The protest quickly descended into a riot when the extremists used petrol bombs to burn two patrol police cars, a double-decker bus and crashed some buildings. Riot police and police cavalry attempted to restore the security order on the streets, while firefighters were dispatched to extinguish the fire. On Sunday morning, the police staff announced that there "a small number of people" and officers still remained to deal with those situations in the Tottenham. Eight officers were being treated in hospital, one with head injuries, following the violence overnight. The London Fire Brigade said all fires after the riot that night were now "under control" from Tottenham High Road to Tottenham Hale Retail Park.
